The town is abuzz with Austin City Limits Festival preparation. Zilker Park has been transformed into a festival-goer’s dream and soon dozens of bands will be rolling into town. Although the two-weekend event is undeniably exciting, for some, the allure has long worn off. Luckily, Austin and its surrounding areas are filled with ways to hideaway from ACL Fest. We’ve gathered a few of our favorites below.

Weekend Getaway

In just a short drive you can be deep in the Texas Hill Country where you can explore small towns, tour vineyards, or even treat yourself to a spa experience. Some of our favorite destinations include Fredricksburg, Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa, and Spicewood Vineyards. Thinking of the ACL weekends as an opportunity to get out of the city helps put a positive spin on the experience.

Take A Hike

For a day-time escape, we love to venture outside city limits for a scenic hike. Head west and you’ll find serenity on trails such as Turkey Creek or Hamilton Pool Preserve. Each of these hiking destinations are just far enough out to escape the chaos, but still close enough to enjoy small-town eateries and shopping destinations on your way back into town. We enjoy stopping by Jester King, Bee Cave BBQ, and The Way Back after a long hike.

Explore The Outskirts

For a quick day trip, hop in the car and explore Austin’s surrounding towns. In less than 40 minutes you can find yourself immersed in old-Texas culture in towns such as Elgin and Bastrop. Each offers unique shopping destinations, mom and pop eateries, and historical gems you typically can’t find in the city.
