Spring has sprung, and the possibilities for activities are endless! With warmer, beautiful days around the corner, the city of Austin is the ideal destination to soak in the Spring. Home to many outdoor activities and events residents and visitors alike can take advantage of all the city has to offer.  Whether you’re enjoying a cold beer at one of the many outdoor patios, cooling off with a dip in Barton Springs, or watching the sunset on a stroll through Zilker Park there is something for everyone.

The ABC Kite Fest

Held annually in the Spring, ABC Kite Fest is one of Austin’s most cherished family traditions. This year, Kite Fest returns on April 3rd in Zilker Park. This free and colorful celebration offers local food vendors around the park, a kite flying competition for all ages, a rock climbing wall, bungee jumping, and many more kid-friendly activities. Grab a kite and head out to Zilker.

Barton Creek Greenbelt

On a beautiful spring day, head over to one of Austin’s most famous spots for outdoor enthusiasts and city locals, The Barton Creek Greenbelt. Visitors can travel 12 miles of trails throughout South Austin. There are multiple entrances to the Greenbelt along Zilker Park and off of the Capital of Texas Highway. The Twin Falls and Sculpture Falls hike is a beautiful 3.2 mile-long hike with points to stop off and enjoy the creek. There are multiple cliffs to jump off of, rock climbing, and kayaking areas.

Outdoor Patios

Austin is fortunate to have some of Texas’s best outdoor dining destinations.  Here are some of our favorites:

  • Chef Tyson Cole of Uchi and Aaron Franklin of Franklin Barbecue collaborated to bring Loro Asain Smokehouse & Bar to the Austin dining scene. Loro offers a beautiful outdoor patio with picnic tables and swinging chairs. The corn fritters are a must-order.
  • Lou’s Austin, located in East Austin, has a great outdoor seating area where you can enjoy burgers, salads, cold beer, and much more. There is a great happy hour menu, and bottles of wine are half price every Tuesday.
  • Aba Austin on South Congress at Music Lane features a beautiful outdoor space with comfy couches and tables anchored by a stunning heritage Oak tree providing shade. This chic space is perfect for grabbing lunch or happy hour.

SFC’s Farmers Market Downtown

The local Austin farmers market held at Republic Square Downtown is a perfect Saturday morning activity! SFC’s Farmers Market hosts the best local farmers, ranchers, and artisans to Austin every Saturday from 9am-1pm. The market also includes live music and kid-friendly activities.
