Football season is here and the excitement of a Longhorn win is filling the Austin air. After a not so normal season last year, we are ready to bring back the tailgating, football games and put on our favorite piece of burnt orange. Whether you enjoy staying the whole game at Darrell K. Royal stadium or sitting among friends and family in the comfort of your home, we have you covered with the ins and outs to a great game day in Austin. The Roxan Coffman team has compiled a list of some local ways to cheer on our favorite teams from popular viewing bars to the creation of a fan favorite at-home tailgate.
At Home Tailgating
Sometimes it just feels better to host friends and family in the comfort of your own home, while also avoiding the game day crowds. One of our favorite ways to host an at-home tailgate is by creating a simple cookout with burgers and hot dogs accompanied by a beverage bar for the adults. It is important to create an environment and viewing area that your guests feel comfortable to kick back, relax and enjoy the game. A great way to do this is either by pulling indoor furniture to an outdoor viewing space, or moving around couches and chairs indoors to create more seating. It is always enjoyable to have music playing, but our favorite suggestion is to have the speaker in a separate room from where the game is playing.
AC Bars and Restaurants
While it may seem packed with burnt orange wearing fans, Matt’s El Rancho is an Austin favorite and is always worth the wait. Put your name on the list and grab a famous Matt’s Knockout at the bar while watching the game. Another popular destination is Shoal Creek Saloon where you can enjoy cajun comfort food, buckets of beer and cocktails, while watching the game from the plethora of flat screens, and individual TVs at the smaller tables. Last, but certainly not least, head down to West 6th and find a street full of bars and flat screen TVs that you can hop between. Little Woodrows offers 100 different beers, 22 of them being on tap, outdoor and indoor seating, and plenty of fans to keep up the energy while watching your team.
Near Daryl K. Royal Stadium
If you are wishing to have a drink before the game or find yourself leaving at half-time, stop in to some of the UT fan destinations across campus. Dirty Martin’s Place has won over the hearts of many Longhorn fans over the years, where they have been serving up burgers and beer since 1926. Posse East and Crown and Anchor are both sports bars, located next door to each other within close proximity to the stadium, and guests can enjoy cheap pitchers of draft beer, both indoor and outdoor seating, and plenty of TVs for viewing the end of the game.
